Stage description
Initially, after winding through the streets of Soltau, the trail leaves the town on a footpath parallel to the small River Böhme to the left on the way to Tetendorf. From Tetendorf, the route follows a quiet road to Imbrock (with just a short off-road section) with its camp site. Further on, the path leads to the scattered houses of the village of Brock (with its conference hotel and the pension/hotel Heidehof a little bit off the trail). Here the E1 crosses the A1 autobahn. After the autobahn there is a section across fields and woods close to the Lehmberghof country house. From here, again, hikers can expect quiet, asphalt roads.
Following these roads, the route passes the villages of Lührbockel and Dehnernbockel before the E1 leaves the roads and follows forest trails through an area called Pechrenne. Coming out of the forest and walking parallel to a railway line for a short while, you are within a stone's throw of Wietzendorf. Here you can find almost everything you need (hotels, restaurants and a pharmacy that sells blister plasters!). After passing through the town, the trail leads across fields, passing the Häteler Berg (79 metres high!) with the model airfield next to the gravel quarry. Afterwards, there is a short stretch along a gravel road before reaching a typical south Heide sandy path. This follows a long straight path to a 7-armed signpost. From here it is not too far to Wietzer Berg (102 metres), where the Hermann Löns memorial ("the poet of the heath") is a real tourist attraction. The path then leads to the town of Müden, where the youth hostel and the Heidesee lake offer a chance to relax tired legs.
