Am Dreiländereck "Foce dei Tre Confini" verlässt der E1 Ligurien und damit den Alta Via dei Monti Liguri. Bis zum Passo dei Due Santi verläuft der Weg dicht entlang der Grenze twischen der Toskana und Emilia-Romagna.

Der Weg verlief zunächst noch auf der Alta via Monti Liguri. Hinter dem Passo del Lupo existierte ein Abzweig zum Monte Gottero, wer es kürzer möchte, kann direkt zum Foce dei Tre Confini gehen. Der Weg führt hier überwiegend durch Buchenwälder. Am Foce dei Tre Confini zweigt der Haupt-AV ab. Danach ist die Markierung zum Teil deutlich schlechter, immer aber ausreichend.
